Lieutenant Mark Benson never stopped loving Felicia, even after she dumped him before their senior prom. Now, six years later, he learns the truth behind why she left him. When she agrees to let his wounded buddy live with them on her small Indiana alpaca farm, she expects an American marine. What she gets is a former Afghan interpreter who’s painfully shy around women.

Scarred from the war, both physically and emotionally, Basir Hamidi is grateful for a place to live. But his attraction to Meghan is a problem. With his honor destroyed by events in his homeland, and nothing to offer her but his broken, scarred self, he vows to avoid her and protect her reputation. Yet he is drawn to her with a strength that can only be God’s leading. For a man who has lost everything, letting go of the past is a difficult process. When he must also redeem his honor, his only chance of success is to rely on God.

Finding the Way Back

Finding the Way Back cover artA field agent betrayed, tortured, and broken. Can the gentle love of his nurse heal his wounds?

Ian Grant withstood captivity and ruthless torture on his latest mission. Now home, his body slowly heals from the deep physical injuries. His mind, though, refuses to mend — and his voice refuses to return. Unable to answer the persistent questions of his superior agents, Ian grows despondent. Until he meets beautiful nurse practitioner, Hazel Baker.

Hazel’s job is to treat bodies, but compassion calls her to heal Ian’s deeper wounds. Agreeing to care for him long-term from her home, Hazel sees how PTSD unravels Ian’s thoughts and behavior. He seems a mental mess, but the warmth in his eyes shows promise, and when he interacts with her four-year-old daughter, the single mother catches a vision of resiliency even Ian doesn’t see any longer.

As Hazel and Ian work on his recovery together, Agency corruption threatens his peace. His trauma can be put to rest only by regaining his voice and speaking against the brutality. Can Hazel’s sweet love help him find the way back to the man he used to be?

New Release and a New Cover

It’s been an exciting couple of weeks around here! Super busy weeks, too, but it’s all good. Last week I celebrated more than Thanksgiving. My newest inspirational romance novel, Trust of the Heart, released from Astraea Press much earlier than I expected! I love my publisher for moving up the release date. I also love the gorgeous cover they designed for the book. Check it out:

Trust of the Heart cover art

Speaking of covers, I’ve been working on a super-secret project for a while now. Okay, so it really wasn’t that secret since a handful of people knew what I was doing, but I love a bit of suspense. Don’t you?

Now that you’re probably dying of curiosity (hey, a girl can dream!), I let you know what that project was. I designed a brand new cover for my sweet romance, Finding the Way Back! I think it captures the essence of the story much better than the old one, don’t you?

Now that you’ve seen the covers, I’m sure you’re dying to know more about the books they represent. Right? (Yes, I’m dreaming again. LOL) How about I share the blurbs and some buy links?

Trust of the Heart

Josh Teague has dark memories from his time in Iraq. While he longs to share the burden of those memories with someone, he is afraid they will scare his girlfriend. Unwilling to risk losing her, he keeps the memories to himself and tries to keep a cheerful attitude despite the holiday season threatening to bring his mood down.

Leann Robak has her own set of memories causing trouble. Abandoned by her father when she was ten, she is devastated when her mother announces she’s taking a month-long trip to Europe over Christmas. Although Josh’s invitation to spend Christmas with him at his parents’ house holds exciting prospects, Leann can tell he’s hiding something from her. That knowledge leaves her wondering how well she truly knows him and whether he even wants to be in a relationship with her.

Can Josh and Leann learn to trust each other fully, or will their insecurities drive them apart?

Trust of the Heart is available from Astraea Press, All Romance eBooks, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Smashwords.

Finding the Way Back

Nurse practitioner Hazel Baker is stunned when the Agency asks her to take a traumatized field agent home with her. Her immediate concern is how it will affect her four-year-old daughter. But, after meeting the broken man, she can’t deny him the opportunity for healing and opens her home to him. If only she could find a way to help him regain the ability to speak, which he lost after being captured during a mission…

Ian Grant may not have a voice, but he still has a conscience — something many of his colleagues at the Agency seem to have lost. Their unethical behavior set back his recovery from the torture he endured, but his move to Hazel’s house gives him hope that perhaps someone truly does care about him, not just what he knows. But can Hazel’s gentle presence and her daughter’s innocence help him find the strength to fight against the corruption riddling the Agency?

~~

Finding the Way Back is available from Amazon, Apple, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Smashwords. The new cover isn’t live at all of these retailers at the time I’m writing this post, but rest assured it will be there soon.

Sweet Saturday Sample – Finding the Way Back

When I wrote Finding the Way Back, I always loved the chance to write Ellie, Hazel’s four-year-old daughter. Kids that age are so much fun and can be so precocious. Here’s a peek at one of my favorite scenes between Hazel and Ellie.

~~

Finding the Way Back cover artEllie looked up at Hazel. “Mommy, can I have a duck? A real one with feathers and quacks?”

“I’m afraid not. We don’t have a good place to keep a duck.” Hazel dried her daughter’s hair. “Ducks like water, remember? And we don’t have a pond or a stream for one to swim in.”

“We could keep it in the bathtub.”

“Then where would you take your bath? Ducks don’t like bubbles.” Hazel held out the pajama top.

“Oh.” Ellie pulled on the shirt and sighed. “I guess I can’t have a duck. Can we get a puppy?”

“Not right now.” Hazel helped her daughter finish dressing and led her out of the bathroom.

Ellie looked up at her as they walked. “Is it because Mr. Ian is here?”

“No, I just don’t think we’re quite ready for a puppy yet. They take a lot of work, you know.” Hazel guided the child into her bedroom and tucked her into bed. “And when I go back to work and you’re at Miss Daisy’s, who would let the puppy outside to potty?”

“I didn’t think about that.” Ellie smothered a yawn as Hazel grabbed their latest book off the nightstand. “Can we get a kitten? Miss Daisy has a kitty, and it uses a kitty pan in the house.”

Hazel fought back a smile. The girl sure was determined. “Sweetie, we’re not adopting any kind of animal right now. Maybe someday, but probably not any time soon.”

“What about a baby?”

And now, because Rachel is such a sweetheart and insisted on it, here’s the cover and blurb for my most recent release, Battlefield of the Heart.

Battlefield of the Heart cover artWhat started out as a bit of research for a sociology paper quickly turns into much more than Cindy ever expected. But can she survive Danny’s PTSD long enough to form a relationship with him?

Cindy Waymire, a college senior in search for a topic for an upcoming sociology paper, finds more than a topic when she meets Army veteran and college freshman Danny Flynn outside the student union. An undeniable attraction to this troubled veteran leads her on a difficult and wind-ing path that brings her to a crossroads — get into a relationship with a man who has serious mental health problems or turn her back on one of the best men she’s ever met.

Can Cindy set her fears aside and follow her heart, or will the ghosts haunting Danny’s mind end their relationship before it begins?

Sweet Saturday Sample – Finding the Way Back

Here’s a peek at my release from last November, Finding the Way Back.

~~

Finding the Way Back cover artHazel turned to face the director and Mr. Wolenczek behind him. “I want to speak with Ian for a moment before I make a final decision. If all goes well, I will take him in and do whatever I can to aid his recovery.”

A furrow formed between Director Cole’s eyebrows, and he drew in a breath. “I’m not sure—”

“Let me go in first,” Mr. Wolenczek said. “Ian knows me, so it might go better if I introduce you before you talk to him.”

“That’s fine.” Hazel ignored the director’s displeased expression and followed Mr. Wolenczek to the door of the observation room.

He typed a code into the keypad by the door, and the light turned red. Opening the door, he stepped inside and spoke in a low, even tone. “Ian, let me know you hear me.”

Ian lifted a hand in a halfhearted wave before letting it fall into his lap again. Mr. Wolenczek stepped farther into the room and motioned for Hazel to join him.

“Ian, this is Hazel Baker. She’s a nurse practitioner and would like to speak with you. All right?”

The same hand lifted briefly in acknowledgement, but otherwise Ian showed no sign that he was aware of the world around him.

Hazel glanced at Mr. Wolenczek, and he nodded. Drawing in a calming breath, she stepped forward and knelt before her soon-to-be patient and housemate. “Ian, they’ve asked that I bring you to my home so you won’t have to stay here any longer. Would you like that?”

He lifted his head ever so slightly and met her gaze with chocolate brown eyes. The shadows of horror were unmistakable, but she suddenly had a feeling he was aware of a lot more than he let on.

She gave him a smile and laid her hand on his arm in a show of friendship. “I have a four-year-old daughter. Her name is Ellie.”

Ian studied her for what felt like an eternity before he finally gave a single small nod. He dropped his gaze again, and Hazel glanced at Mr. Wolenczek. He shrugged, offering no help in deciphering the nod. She turned back to Ian.

“Does that mean you want to come stay with me?” He nodded again, and Hazel gave his arm a gentle squeeze. “All right, then. We’ll make arrangements to transport you to my house.”

She stood and followed Mr. Wolenczek out of the room. As he and the others discussed the transportation plan, she glanced through the glass wall. Ian met her gaze and held it for a few seconds before looking away again. He stretched out on the bench with his back to the hall, and Hazel tried to return her attention to the discussion around her. Unfortunately, she couldn’t get those troubled brown eyes out of her mind. It felt like he was trying to tell her something, but what?

Read an Ebook Week – What are you reading?

Read an Ebook Week banner with a lady in a long dressIn case you haven’t heard, we’re in the midst of Read an Ebook Week (March 3-9). I must admit, I love ebooks. I love print books as well, but recently I’ve found myself reading more ebooks than print books simply because they’re readily available and a few dozen ebooks take up much less space than a few dozen print books. The lower cost of most ebooks is also a huge bonus for me. Instead of one print copy, I can purchase two or more ebooks for the same price. Who doesn’t want to save money and have more reading material?

Now for some shameless promotion (I am an ebook author, after all LOL). This week, through March 9, my romantic suspense Finding the Way Back is on sale for 50% off the regular price. All you have to do is go to Smashwords and enter the coupon code REW50 when you checkout to get the discount. While you’re on the site, be sure to check out the rest of the ebooks available at a discount during Read an Ebook Week.

If you’re looking for some clean romances and other fiction, hop on over to Astraea Press and check out their catalog. Yes, I’m a bit biased because they are one of my publishers, but they have some awesome books available written by some wonderful authors. If you’re curious about my sweet romances published by AP, look for Jordan’s Battle and Imperfect Beauty.

And finally, there are also some amazing Christian fiction ebooks available. Whether you enjoy inspirational romance or more mainstream Christian fiction, Pelican Book Group has you covered. They’re another of my publishers and publish quite a few talented authors. I have four ebooks published with them so far, all inspirational romances: Dreams Do Come True, Healing in Haven Falls, The Key to Charlotte, and Breath of Christmas.

That’s enough promotion for one post. What ebooks are you reading this week? Do you have any you’d like to recommend? Authors, feel free to mention your own ebooks!

We have a winner!

First off, let me say a big thank you to everyone who commented on and entered the Finding the Way Back Release Party and Giveaway! Your comments are much appreciated.

Now, I’m sure you’re all wondering who the winner of the Amazon/Barnes & Noble gift card is. I put all the entries into Random.org and the winner is:

Carla Rossi
